Ted Turner wants Cartoon Network back…
…but that ain’t gonna happen, though part of me wishes it could. Turner made this statement in an interview today with Bloomberg News . Unfortunately Ted would remove Superman and run Captain Planet in prime time. But at least he’d return cartoons to the channel. Watch the video of Turner’s statement here .

Cartoon Network takes a lot of heat around here, but when they do something right we’ll report it and celebrate it. Starting today, classic Warner Bros. cartoons return to the channel in a six-hour marathon (1pm-7pm EST), and the network has scheduled a regular daily hour of Looney Tunes at 11am Eastern (8am Pacific) each weekday. I was a consultant to the Cartoon Network shortly after it launched in 1992. Somehow back then I acquired a copy of this 1991 presentation video, which Ted Turner used to pitch the idea to cable operators and potential advertisers. It’s interesting to revisit this piece today — the channel’s current agenda is a far cry from its...
I got a kick out of this trailer for Storm , a nine-minute animated short based on a ‘beat poem’ by Australian comedian and writer Tim Minchin. Turner lives and works in the Atlanta, Georgia area. His landscapes, painted in oil and acrylic, are softly rendered, at times more suggested than...
Yeah, this is another post ragging on Cartoon Network as is spirals down the drainpipe of doom. It reads: “Are you between 13 and 16 years old? Would you like to have a...
Cartoon Dump , the unholy alliance of Brewmaster Jerry Beck and writer/ producer/ comedian Frank Conniff (”TV’s Frank” from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 ) is back for another depraved offering of sketches, songs, puppets, stand-up comedy, and the most God-awful Saturday Morning Cartoons from the 50s, 60s and 70s — this week...
For several hours over the weekend, 14 Cartoonstitute shorts were posted on You Tube. Monday morning they were all gone. However, one of them – Derek Drymon’s Danger Planet – has escaped and I’m pleased to post it below. Watch it while you can:
