Jon Foster (update 2)

October 29th, 2009 admin

Jon Foster, who I wrote about previously here and here , has a new web site . It is simultaneously wonderful and frustrating. It’s wonderful, of course, because it features even more of Foster’s elegant, painterly, and superbly accomplished illustrations, old and new; and now includes a terrific section of sketches. It’s frustrating because it simply doesn’t do justice to how good his paintings are. Size and resolution, as they often are in web galleries, are the limitation here. You can certainly get a taste by browsing through the site, but I have to emphasize that it’s worth seeking out his work in print, as I pointed out before . Unfortunately…

Erik Tiemens (update)
I’ve written previously about Erik Tiemens , and his blog Virtual Gouache Land . Tiemens has recently redone his web site at watersketch.com with an emphasis on his gouache and watercolor paintings and sketches. There are also galleries of oil paintings, drawings and photography. Tiemens’ gouache paintings, though sometimes combined...
Nick Pugh (update)
Nick Pugh (update)
I wrote about Nick Pugh back in 2006. Pugh is a concept artist and designer for the entertainment industry. In addition to his work in feature films, he often does design work for theme park rides and attractions. Since my previous post, Pugh has redesigned his web site and added considerable material. You’ll find links to various galleries,...

Sotheby’s
If, like me, you find yourself frequently frustrated with the relatively low resolution images provided by many museums and fine art sites; and tire of the frustrating little zoom windows that they provide for a “close up”, I have a suggestion for a site that you may not have considered. This site has nice large images of museum quality...

Tadahiro Uesugi (update)
The good news is that since I last wrote about the wonderfully expressive and brilliantly realized illustrations of Tadahiro Uesugi back in 2005, many more examples of his work have been added to his web site . The bad news is that the site is still in frames and as awkward as ever to navigate. The domain name is simply a pointer to his original...

Society of Illustrators 2010 Student Scholarship Competition
Wow. Judging by the work shown in the Student Illustration winners gallery of the Society of Illustrators 2010 Student Scholarship Competition, we are in for a treat as a new wave of talented illustrators readies themselves for professional life. There is a astonishingly high level of ability on display here, along with imagination and the brash...

Karen Hollingsworth (update)
Since I last wrote about painter Karen Hollingsworth in 2006, she has continued exploring her luminous room interiors, which have evolved into “windowscapes”. Many painters will work to fill rooms with light, but Hollingsworth’s rooms are volumetrically filled with the palpable presence of light and air. Sea air lifts gossamer...

Frits Thaulow (update)
Norwegian painter and engraver Frits Thaulow long ago became one of my favorite artists on the basis of a single painting in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Water Mill . I make a point of visiting it every time I’m at the museum. This stunningly beautiful and dramatically large painting embodies Thaulow’s wonderful...

Brian Despain (update)
Brian Despain’s world-weary and weather-beaten robots may be the “every robot” in all of us. At times active and engaged, at other times forlorn and seemingly lost, his dented and roughly textured copper-skinned automatons carry a darkly humorous portrayal of our own place amid the natural world. I first wrote about Brian Despain...
After Effects Logo Animation Slingshot Shatter
What could this be? Well, it could be a bit silly and just a little bit of fun. We are, after all, seeking to capture their attention in the first few seconds and whether or not this is an absolute for your site, it will open up some windows on possibilities for your logo with After Effects.  Read More →
