T.M.M.o.F is short for The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack which is a pretty darn decent show on Cartoon Network. I’ve seen probably 10 now and its definitely an awesome show kids and usually a half-awesome show for easily amused adults (like me). But at this point in my life, ANY cartoon I can have on with my 14 month old which is not Dora or Diego is great. Anyway, about the show titles! A Note to Modernism...Modernism was coming to an end in the 1970s. A climate of cultural change resulted as the norms in society were questioned and challenged. Postmodernism design opposed the order and clarity of modern design, rejecting universality, strict grid layouts, and the modernist principles that dominated since the Bauhaus. References to history were now used as design elements for style and to evoke feelings of nostalgia. To reflect the ideals of postmodernism and its reaction against modernism, a piece was created using the Bauhaus Manifesto. The manifesto was remade (original words in mixed typeface style) using individual clippings from newspapers in ransom note style, reminiscent of the 1970s Sex Pistols album cover, Never Mind the Bullocks. This parallels ideals regarding counterculture, and postmodernism's own reaction against the universal ideals originating from the Bauhaus. In addition, the local newspaper used for the piece, The Georgia Straight, is prevalent in a wide variety of design references and style motifs. The mash up of mixed type clippings were loosely spread out on a grid-like background, using the grid as form without function. The piece was further elevated by photographing, then creating a short video, using a clip of a song from the Never Mind the Bullocks album. The piece becomes a mash up of its own photos in digital format.

The Eye of the Python...Right! Stop that! It's SILLY! Dear friends, if you're not familiar with the timeless genius of Monty Python then this one might be a bit over your head. It's an adaptation of the following classic sketch: www.youtube.com I got the idea for this from, unsurprisingly, reading Richard Dawkins' The Greatest Show On Earth. Particularly the chapter which deals with the enormous amount of evidence pointing to life having NOT been designed by an intelligent agency, given all the incredible design flaws that can be seen throughout all of biology. The vertebrate eye is a very good example of this, for the reasons you can hear herein. I usually like to give detailed references where I can, but the research for this one was just a wild goose-chase around the net picking up bits of info here and there, mainly from Wikipedia. So tough, you'll have to take my word for it. Yes, yes, its all a bit exaggerated. I am very grateful for my eyes and am in fact one of the lucky ones who cannot complain of any eye weakness of any kind. ONLY MONTY PYTHON PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO DMCA ME ON THIS ONE. AND IF YOU DO, GUYS, CAN I GET THE COURT PAPERS AUTOGRAPHED?! I definitely wont put an ad on this one, its definitely NOT exclusively my own material!
