Animation can be used to inform, educate, advertise and express emotions just as live action can by using the same techniques; such as the use of colour, film language and sound. The NSPCC advert by Russell Brooke on television is a good example of how animation can be more effective than live action. There is no limit to how much a situation or an action can be exaggerated but still remain to be convincing.

History of Animation in Live Action
Animation in live action means integrating real life characters with animated characters. It started way back in 1940 during the black & White era where Disney movies had not even taken shape. ‘Gertie the Dinosaur’ was a first movie made where live action & animation were used in collaboration. Why is it a no-brainer (literally) for major studios to green-light live action CGI remakes of classic cartoon properties as feature films (Scooby Doo, Marmaduke, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, Underdog, Garfield, Speed Racer, etc.), but the idea of reviving such characters as TV series is considered a no-no? One major reason movie execs chase these...

After Effects – ‘Cartoon’
I’ve been flirting with one of the new effects in After Effects CS4, ‘Cartoon’. If you would like to produce the exaggerated features of caricature, the overstatement of emphasized features, this tool makes it easy. Using Animation to Develop Focus and Planning Skills
Many times educators are faced with the challenge of keeping their students focused on the curricular materials and yet want to encourage independent thought and experimentation within a semi-controlled environment. Mars! by Joe Bichard and Jack Cunningham
Mars! is a visually striking and sophisticated combination of animation and graphic design created by Joe Bichard and Jack Cunningham at Kingston University. Sound design by Jimi Swells is also quite effective. In light of BP’s destructive behavior, the film can be read as an effective and timely allegory for how oil companies rape and pillage...
Modeling & Texturing
Regardless of what kind of animation you are planning, the first thing you must do is create the objects you plan to use in your animation.
